Explorations of Style. Experiments in Form.

​A day-long writing retreat in Glasgow, Sunday 24th Nov 24.

​

Please join other alumni and graduates of The New Mothers' Writing Circle for a whole day of reading, writing, sharing and learning. 

​

The day will be led by project founder & director Catrin Kemp, with workshops from award-winning writer Chitra Ramaswamy and project alumni and Creative Writing PhD student Niamh Gordon.

​

Sunday 24th Nov 2024, 10.30am - 4.30pm

The Arlington Baths, Glasgow G3 6DT.

Vegan catering available.

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch if preferable.  

About the day-retreat

Join us for an immersive day of writing. 

Explore new ways of expressing your stories, experiences, poems and ideas. Revisit themes from your matrescence whilst pushing against the boundaries of style and form.

 

​Building on the work of The New Mothers’ Writing Circle, the day-retreat will be led by Catrin, with additional workshops exploring OuLiPo, memoir, poetry and other techniques to support you to give words to your experience of motherhood.

 

You do not need to bring anything but a notebook and pen.

 

You are welcome to bring your baby / child(ren) with you, so long as there is an additional carer to support their needs. Carers and children are welcome to stay for lunch. ​Please book their meals below.

Chitra Ramaswamy

The guest tutor is award-winning journalist and author Chitra Ramaswamy.

 

Chitra’s latest book, Homelands: The History of a Friendship (Canongate) is a work of creative non-fiction exploring her friendship with a 99-year-old German Jewish refugee called Henry Wuga. It won the Saltire Non-Fiction Book of the Year and was included in The Guardian’s top memoirs and biographies of 2022. Her first book, Expecting: The Inner Life of Pregnancy (Saraband) won the Saltire First Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Polari Prize.

Tickets

There are currently 20 of 40 spaces left. Tickets are available to those who have been through The New Mothers' Writing Circle 8-week programme. 

​

Vegan lunch will be provided by Peck. Tea, coffee and water will be available throughout the day. 

​

​Tickets are £50 without lunch, £62 with lunch. If you'd like an additional lunch for a partner or carer, these can be booked for £13.
